Teenage pregnancy is an issue that has direct and indirect consequences that affect more than just the adolescent parents involved. It impacts their children, families, communities, and the American society in general. In the United States, there were 4,019,280 total births in 2002. Of those, 7.8% were low birth weight. Births to mothers under the age of 20 totaled 425,493. Nearly 7% received little or no prenatal care.
